Individual, Couples & Family Therapy in San Diego and Vista, CA
If something in your life or relationship has stopped working — and you're tired of just managing it — this is a place to actually deal with it.
Meet Austin Bowman, LMFT
Relational enough to be safe. Honest enough to be useful.
I'm not going to just sit and nod. I'll listen — really listen — but I'll also tell you what I'm noticing, ask the question you've been sidestepping, and push back when it matters. I work with individuals, couples, and families around trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, and the relational patterns that keep resurfacing no matter how many times you've tried to push past them on your own. A good part of my caseload is men who were never given a real vocabulary for what they feel — if that's you, or your relationship with one, I don't need you to arrive already knowing how to talk about it.
I believe real change doesn't come from comfort alone, and it doesn't come from confrontation alone — it comes from having both in the same room. My approach draws on EMDR, CBT, ACT, and IFS depending on what's actually in front of me, and faith can be part of the conversation if it's part of your life — I'll follow your lead there, not mine. Either way, the goal is the same: you leave sessions with something different than you walked in with.

“Something happened, and I still haven’t actually dealt with it.”

Still Have Questions?
-
We'll talk through what's bringing you in, get a real picture of your situation and history, and start shaping what working together would look like. You don't need to arrive with it all organized — that's part of what the first session is for.
-
Individuals, couples, and families. My clinical focus areas are trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, and relationship patterns — including a particular depth working with men navigating what they were taught (or never taught) about their own emotions.
-
If it's part of how you make sense of your life, yes, I'm comfortable going there. If it's not part of your life, it won't be part of our sessions either.
-
Yes. What you share stays between us, with the standard legal exceptions any licensed therapist is required to follow (risk of harm to yourself or others, abuse of a child or dependent adult, and a few other narrow situations I'll explain up front).
-
I'm a private-pay/out-of-network provider. I can provide a superbill so you can seek reimbursement from your insurance plan directly.
-
My fee is $225 and I have a limited number of sliding scale spots.
-
Yes — in-person in Mission Valley and Vista, or by telehealth anywhere in California.

It depends on what you're working on. Some things resolve in a matter of weeks; deeper patterns, trauma, or long-standing relationship dynamics tend to need more time. We'll check in on progress along the way rather than committing to a fixed timeline up front.
